Background

Kathleen Everett, M.A. 
    Kathy has a Master's Degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University.  She has taught preschool through middle school and specializes in teaching children with autism in elementary  school.  She has almost 20 years of experience as an advocate for people with disabilities specializing in building inclusive communities.  She has more than 15 years of expertise working collaboratively with school districts and parents to bring about positive changes for people with disabilities.  Almost 15 years ago, she was part of the catalyst that enabled a large metropolitan school district to implement a systems change for inclusion of all students.    She has worked  with school districts in Illinois, California and Georgia.    Her strong commitment to working cooperatively with all stakeholders for the benefit of all children has earned her the respect of parents, teachers and administrators.  She has presented seminars and training to parents, students and educators.   She is a member of TASH, ARC, GAE, NDSC, NDSS, DSAA, GA-ASA, and CEC along with many list serves.  She is a graduate of Georgia Partners in Policymaking.  She was a Bridges Link for North Fulton and Forsyth Counties providing assistance and training to school districts and parents to promote inclusion.  She has been a member of the Special Education Local Plan Area  in California where she wrote the Special Needs Procedure Book.   She has been a supporting parent for Parent-to-Parent of Georgia  since 2001.   She is the Georgia State PTA Special Services Committee Chair and also chairs the same committee at her children's schools. She has been the Exceptional Children Committee Chair at local unit level and council level for more than 14 years.   She has also served in various PTA positions from committee member to president.  She was a girl scout leader for over 7 years.  She has taught middle school confirmation classes for 7 years.   She has been advising parents as a volunteer for more than 15 years.   She continuously keeps abreast of changes and news by attending , reading  about the subject and coordinating parent groups.  She is recognized as an advocate for people with disabilities, parents and educators.
